A) Label
each of the underlined words as a verb or noun:
- George said his goodnights and left the church with the others.
- They lifted their books and sang with even more fervour.
- The men suppressed a grin between themselves.
B) Circle
the adjectives in the sentences below.
- They all thought Tom was talented at playing the organ.
- Tom played a beautiful song for Willie after the rehearsal.
- As the evening went on, the singing became more lovely.
- The small church was filled with the voices of the choir.
- The men thought that Tom was still a grumpy, old man.
- The first carol was sung with little effort, and sounded dull.
C) Extend these sentences using
either a relative clause or subordinate clause.
- Tom played the organ.
- The men sang loudly.
- George sat in the second row.
D) Explain how Toms mood changed before,
during and after the carol rehearsal.
