Adverbs - An adverb modifies or qualifies (describes)
a verb, an adjective or another adverb. It tells us how, where, when, how much
and with what frequency (how often).
Identify the
adverbs in these sentences.
- He could hear the rain gently hitting the tiled roof.
- He could hardly believe Zach was his special friend.
- ‘Zach,’ he began huskily. He cleared his throat.
Synonyms - A synonym is a word which is similar in
meaning.
Replace the
underlined word with a synonym that fits the context.
- Everyone was terribly impressed with his suit.
- Zach and George dragged the case up the bedroom.
- With a flourish, he pulled out a jersey of many colours.
Conjunctions -Conjunctions are words used to connect
words, phrases or clauses.
Identify the
conjunctions in the sentences below.
- Meanwhile, the government had asked for a money contribution from the parents of evacuees.
- Zach gave her a withering glance but it was so dramatic she and the others burst out laughing.
- He peeled a large piece of newspaper from the top and unwrapped five small parcels.
