Grammar - Active and Passive

Each week we will post a grammar challenge with an explanation of what the term means.  Remember you also have your grammar revision sheet to refer to help you out.

This week we are focusing on active and passive

In each row, write P or A to show if the sentences are passive (P) or active (A)
Sentence
passive/active
Willie was given his lunch by Tom.

Tom weeded the graveyard.

Tom helped Willie to write his name.

A mug of tea was pushed towards Willie.

We tend to use active sentences most of the time but see if you can spot any passive sentences this week or maybe create some of your own based on your activities and write them in your books or email them to us!

Here are some we have created:

Mrs Roberts and Mrs Rodgers miss Year Six greatly. (active)
Year Six are missed greatly by Mrs Roberts and Mrs Rodgers. (passive)

Mrs Roberts and Mrs Rodgers walked their dogs. (active)
The dogs were walked by Mrs Roberts and Mrs Rodgers. (Passive)
